D is for delay… and destination. The story of D is, up to this point, the story of a chase. The artist is the hunter, the musician the elephant, and his composition in D, the much-coveted tusk. Every meeting with the great man is a moment of creative bliss, but geographical distances still exist in this world, though one can easily forget it. 7x7th Street has been made possible by the intense use of communication technologies. When these means aren’t reliable, time takes time. Finally and happily Mulatu’s offering in D was delivered, but just weeks before the Edinburgh premiere, making it impossible for the sculpture to be painted and silk-screened. You are invited, then, to discover the work in progress. Like the composition for D, 7x7th Street is a work in transit, final destination as yet unknown…tis in the sun reaches everyone…’
