E is for ethereal beauties. Dies Veneris, the Day of Venus (vendredi, venerdi, viernes), and the Day of Freyja (Friday, Freitag, Vrijdag ). Venus and Freyja, her Nordic colleague, are goddesses associated with love, beauty, fertility and victory. But while Venus embodies sex, Freyja’s lot is war and death. The amarelinha (little yellow girl) from the E composition has become a coalition of yellow Venuses, escapees from different times and places. They congregate at Copacabana, a perfect complement to the Blue. There, they meet praying Muslims and a Robinsonless Man Friday. They dance to the sounds of Blue Krishna on flute and Blue Mitchell on trumpet, jamming on Thelonious Monk’s ‘Friday the 13th’. Blue is the Blues, blue is Justice, the Virgin Mary… and most cops. ‘She’s got it / Yeah, baby, she’s got it / I’m your Venus / I’m your Fire / Your Desire’. It makes you wonder why we need these little blue pills…?’
